Meet The Team
LUKE (DIRECTOR)
Luke started off as a volunteer here back on 1st April 2002 when he was 15 years old. His passion for the birds quickly grew. Luke has had his own birds throughout the years and has worked in numerous zoos in the UK. Since returning back to Huxley’s full time, he has been able to use his knowledge gained from working within the industry to help bring Huxley’s forward and give it a fresh new look and feel. Since 2021 we have made significant changes through the ideas brought forward by Luke and his team and we are continuing to make more.
FUN FACT
Luke works within the entertainment industry as a Drag Queen.
KAREN (LEAD VOLUNTEER)
Karen Has been volunteering here for several years, she is a self confessed owlaholic and can often be seen talking to the teddy owls in our shop. Karen has been vital in helping on the admin side of things both when Julian was alive and after. She is wonderfully organised and tidy that is very helpful within a zoo setting.
FUN FACT
Karen is a qualified Reiki master and Angel therapy practitioner. She likes Owls, Reiki, Owls, Angels, Owls, Reading, Owls, Walking, Owls and Craft work.
CASPER (LEAD VOLUNTEER)
Casper has been with us since 2023. Whilst with us he has completed his University Zoology Course and puts all he knows into his work. He is now our lead experiences host, his care for guests and the Birds is priceless and we are proud to have him as a member of our Huxley Family.
Fun Fact
As well as our Birds, Casper loves Marine Biology and especially Snow Leopards
FEARNE (VOLUNTEER)
Our most colourful member of staff, Fearne is a powerhouse of creativity and her kinship with the birds is incredible. Fearne has been a DIY Queen recently and has been working on the Old Catus house.
She loves all animals especially her pet Python Banoffee.
FUN FACT
Fearne creates her own earrings of all the birds here at the Centre if you see her ask her what her new creation is.
ELLA (VOLUNTEER)
Ella has been with us since 2023, she's a very kind soul that wouldn't say boo to a goose but the birds love this about her.
FUN FACT
Ella is very artistic and has even started painting walls around the centre, see if you can spot her work when you come to visit.
